Hmmmmm

I just wonder who comes here and actually reads :P
I think the confirmed headcount is 2 :p Including me.
Well it was IES AGM today. Elected as IT head :P so I’m no longer the IT Assistant’s Head as I would put it :P

Tiring day but had a nice dinner with the 16th IES Exco. Its been an enjoyable year w/ the 16th Exco hopefully the 17th Exco will be just as fun :D

IES interviewing for next committee

Its been a tiring few days. IES old book sale and IES interviewing for the next main committee. It was the worse yesterday. 10-2 lecture, 2-4 book sale duty, 4 onwards interviewing.
Dang tiring. Had more today that more or less ‘killed’ my free Wednesday :(
Printing at school is pretty dismall nowadays. Its freaking slow and the queues dont help matters. Sigh.. At least the spot at E2 is still ok :) And now I have a new print service for the same charge and its only a few doors away :D Thank Wein!! :D

Interviewing not to bad. Not as tiring as yesterday. But now I need to start working for school. Lab tomorrow from 6-9 PM!!!! :'(
2-3 tutorial, 3-5 lecture, 5 onwards meeting supervisor for 1 module, 6-9 lab :S
SWAN programming
Going to be a loooooooong day tomorrow. Back to ‘studying’

Hello Kitty is 30 years old??!?!?! Heard on the TV for the news preview. I guess I’ll find out at 930pm just before The Amazing Race

Okay back to work while watching tv :P

Last day of 1st week of school

Lecture in 2hrs. Been kind of a boring week as most lectures are just introductions to the course all the formalities of the details of exams, labs, tutorials and such.
Nothing much to say I guess. Spent most of the time in lecture doing my other work commitments :P And playing of course :P

One annoying thing that has bugged me since yesterday. I restarted my laptop and then Windows says that a new device has been detected on my PS/2 port. The thing is nothing is connected to my PS/2 port. Out of curiousity I just let Windows install the proper drivers and find out it detects a mouse… The ‘mouse’ it detects is actually the TrackPoint. Yes thats the official name I think. It’s the pointing device you see on all IBM notebooks (I could be wrong though), you know that ‘red dot’ in the middle of the keyboard that you use as a joystick in a way to move your mouse. Also called the “little red dot” or “nipple” (I think, or maybe thats a term that some how just appeared :P). But in my case its blue :P Anyway I have to extra buttons for my TrackPoint that are usually configured for scroll up and scroll down. However due to driver installation Windows thinks its a 3 button mouse…. My scrolls dont work anymore and it annoys me. I uninstalled the driver and restarted but its still there. I’ll try uninstall it again later before I shut down comp to go lecture. I hate you Microsoft.. but dont we all know that already? :P

A few links for those bored people like me :P
iPod vs. The Cassette – the name speaks for itself
Summer’s Pop Music Meltdown – kind of disturbing but true
SEC to examine Playboy for boobs – I just like the title they picked :P
Turn Real Life Into A Cartoon – I have to admit it seems so cool (even though its from M$ :P
Windows XP SP2 Impressions – apparently problems with outbound TCP/IP connections. Good thing I didnt instal yet as I didnt have the 2GB free space that it recommends being free before installation :P
Dell Inspiron XPS (Extreme Edition) – I have found the laptop that I want :D Well mainly because of the graphics card :P Found it while looking for TrackPoint

Classes have started

** Updated at 3:28:03 on 2004/08/14 **
1 day of lectures yesterday and free day today. 3 lectures yesterday. Engineering professionalism which was kind of boring.
Software Engineering which was ok and Operating systems which was pretty good. Guest lecturer Hugh Anderson (hope I spelt it right) was entertaining and good :)
SP2 is out

Feel a bit tired and drained out. I better sleep early tonight, but cluster leader election at 2230 when TAR is on!!! :”(:”(
sigh….

Yup. It’s still week 0 (orientation week) but I have a 3hr lecture coming right up. Warcraft 3 tournament going on at Jurong East today. Friends match at 1545. Probably will drop by and see how things are. CRAP!!! I forgot I still need to print out notes for the lecture later :P
Better go now. Luckily I typed the following links 1st :P
Image flaw pierces PC security – This is scary as it affects not only the 3 major web broswers (Opera, Mozilla (I consider Firefox to be Mozilla so :P), IE) but ANY program that uses the PNG open source format :S
Disney making computers? I like the ears as the speakers though :P

Windows XP SP 2 is out!!!!: but not for end users… :P At least its making some headway after several delays.
1st trojan for Windows CE: Scary stuff. Is nothing safe from viruses/trojans and the like? :”( Next thing, spyware on PDAs :S:S:S
2TB memory card!!!! I want!!!!! 120MBps data transfer!!! I/O support!!!! MMC size and compatible with MMC slots!!! Man this seems like the holy grail in memory cards
Snipe-hack bluetooth enable phones :p

Its going to be a busy slacking week

Somehow I’ve got involved with ECE (Electrical and Computer Engineering) orientation. Well a more acccurate picture would be I was dragged in by a junior from my CPE(Computer Engineering) orientation group last year, me being the leader.
So I guess this week I that I planned to use to catch up on work outstanding won’t be so successfully used :( I am still continuing the internship I was doing unofficially just to get the system complete in my view.
I all the ‘haste’ of finishing up the internship system I completely forgot Doom3 was in Singapore yesterday!!! Saw it in the shop just now after dinner with the ECE orientation organisers. Selling for S$68 :S:S Well at least its not as expensive as Max Payne 2 when it first came out and was selling for $80!!!!! The thing I hate about most games now are (1)Overpriced. Totally
(2)They dont run on my system because the requirements are too high. Ok maybe not the problem that it doesnt run on my system because its a laptop but so many games nowadays require so much as a minimum requirement. I think to me games should all run ok on a system with 32MB video RAM, 128RAM and whatever processor :p. Ok mainly the thing I hate most is I see a lot of game requiring at LEAST 64MB of video RAM!!!! I dont ask for good graphics just give me solid game play and good replay value and I’m set.
I hear my watch ring indicating its midnight :|:|
I really have to kill this habit of staying up late. But then thats the only time I can do work when I come back after everything… sigh… Orientation untill Friday. Sunday out with friends because 2 of them decide to go Denmark for SEP :P Monday public holiday due to Singapore’s National Day (at least I think it is) and Tuesday school starts. Thank goodness Wednesday is still my free day haha
Speaking of school I still dont know if I have got my EE3001 module that I hope I did else I will be doing that project as well as EE2001 project which is supposedly very tough BOTH next semester :|:|:|
Eyelids feel heavy… I need to sleep soon.
Here’s to the new semester and hopefully EARLY nights even though I doubt so as I hope to have 6 modules and a 4 day week finishing most classes in the evening :(
New semester starts more stuff to do. More games to play :P:P

IES Freshmen Welcome Day is OVER!!!!!

done. gone. finished. finito.
Its over. No more. I’m free!!!!! For 1 more week before school starts on the 10th of August. So it’s probably going to be 1 week of trying to squeeze all the stuff I didnt get to do and want to do during the holidays :P.. minus a few stuff :P
Ok maybe just mainly do a few things
1) Learn J2ME
2) Update website
3) Do website for mom :P
I think mainly just those :P
Ok now off to relax…..

yesterday been a long and tiring day

** Updated at 6:09:05 on 2004/07/30 **
matriculation fair for IES booth was held yesterday as all engineering students were matriculating yesterday. Initially I was in the 1st 2 shifts from 730-1230 but ended up switching to the last 2 as Candy couldnt make it for the last shift. So duty being from 1230-1730.
Went to clubroom at about 1210, just in time for the briefing that was supposed to be there. But then we just ‘quickly’ rushed to the MPSH where the matriculation fair was being held together with my laptop and goodie bags :S:| So many goodie bags and stuff.
Get to the MPSH and have to wait for people to come out as each booth is assigned only 4 passes, no more no less. So wait wait and wait. Finally got in and set up laptop to replace Gordon’s laptop and start actual work. After a while my voice got a bit hoarse due to too much talking :S:S
Very tired asking people whether they are interested in joining IES as a member as well as promoting the club. The worse part I hate is when the people you approach are just plain rude. I remember there was this 1 guy in particular who answered very curtly “No” after I asked him whether he was interested in joining IES. Just very put off by that freaking guy. Everyone else was courteous at least. Why can’t you do the same? Idiot guy.
Anyway had to push the people to sign up for Freshman Welcome Day that will be held tomorrow at 930-1730 I think or something like that. At least I wont be running around with the freshman as I’m a station master :P hehe But I have to take care of the prizes supposedly :P

Now let me mention about my module bidding. Currently I’m the ONLY person to bid for CS2106 Operating Systems as you can see from the pic below
bidding table
And also notice the insanely high bid for FNA1002E Financial Accounting which is actually more than my current points of 1435. So there goes Accounting for this round. I’ll probably just wait for a later round. Worse comes to worse I dont get the module I’ll still have 5 modules including the heavy EE2001 project and OS as an S/U (satisfactory/unsatisfactory) option :P
Still thinking of taking 6 but the 6th module I want to be pretty ‘light’ as I dont want to over burden myself at the same time I don’t want to ‘waste’ my S/U option in the coming semester :P

I guess thats all for now… Enjoy today as tomorrow will be another long and tiring day…

what can i say. its been a bad few days

** Updated at 16:41:13 on 2004/07/27 **
mainly started off w/ the wrong cable for my phone. The guy at the shop told me it was the cable for my phone. But nooooooooo, life just decides to mock me once again….. Doesnt work and when I tried to return it the guy said he cant give me a cash refund but i can chagne it for any other goods and pay the difference if there is any….. And also that the cable i actually need is $115 not the $38 i paid for the other cable. No way am I spending so much on a freaking cable. Phones and phone accesorries are freaking overpriced these days. Went to the shop yesterday the guy was not their and his ever so ‘helpful’ colleague was so ‘kind’ to say something along the lines of “you didn’t deal with me so its not my business”. There was no “Sorry sir, but you will have to take the matter up with my colleague as I did not handle this transaction”. Heck there wasn’t even a “sorry” anywhere.
Still stuck with a $38 refund with nothing to spend it on except goods in the shop like another mobile phone / some mobile phone accessories / digital cameras / other little things that I dont NEED let alone want. All I wanted was a freaking cable that works with my phone for $38 and what do I get? In 1 word “screwed” / “conned” / “swindled”. But “screwed” says it the best way I think.
When life comes to things like this, life just bascially sucks. Life’s not good to me.
Not only that came back from a day out to find my laptop infected with 3 viruses/backdoor trojans or what not. Managed to get rid of 1 but the other 2 are there and not getting removed. 1 of them might be an ‘error’ due to the anti-virus giving a false alarm the other 1 I just deleted as it was a MyDoom variant or something but I dont know why it couldnt be removed so I just deleted the file and hope for the best.
And I come to realise that anti-virus software sites and pretty badly designed because I cant find an easy link to search the virus database. It just plan sucks.
Life sucks. For today only I hope.
On a brighter note Marks & Spencers selling 2 chocolate chip cookies packet for the price of 1 due to expiry date coming round the corner.
But still. Life sucks.

Forgot to mention, my aircon decides to kick a fuss as well. Need to find the management tomorrow morning. When things go wrong, be wary as more things will go wrong. Murphy how I hate your law….
