And so it’s almost over

RT done!!! =D=D=D Mr and Mrs PacSmithman presentation and demo done. Now its just the final touches to the report and submission. Operating systems assignment practically done, but yet to be fully tested. Documentation still needs to be done. Time to start studying. 16th,18th,25th Nov are my exams, 21st Nov is my FYP CA2. Going to be 1 heck of a week. I’ll have 1 exam over in a week’s time =|
Perhaps its time to hit the books, but I rather play with the penguin. Slow transition to the penguin world is slowly happening. A few probs will be, there is no longer any NUS Debian mirror. Seems to be broken/slowly taken down or who knows what, so perhaps have to change distro if I plan on reinstalling… aaaaahhhhhh
Anyway I guess I should get my lunch. For the past week I’ve been sleeping at 0200 the earliest just doing the RT project. But thats more or less laid to rest which is what I should do to, rest myself and study. And study. And study. Thank God that the content doesnt seem that bad this semester but still need to read and read and study :P Quite a bit of overlap for Operating systems and real-time content so even better :D

Good luck for your exams people

Project days now and ahead

In 6.5 hours I will be in town to take photos for mission trip :|
Two days ago I slept for only an hour.
Tonight I think I shall get less.
For one project with so many problems
I’m thinking this would be much more useful. And actually its fitting with our project. The module? EE4214. I will need to make a page for future students for them to find out what they need to know about the course and how to start and guidelines which the people in charge do not give, or do not give much….. To anybody doing the course in the future I’ll be glad to help so that you dont have to waste your time doing things that are useless.
As for me now I think I’ll slack around for a while before getting back to work.

Good thing I dont have any official classes this week due to the holidays today and 2 days ago.

RANT: NUS Debian distro is screwed up!!!!! I believe they have taken away some packages because now I CANT install from it anymore. No more xserver-xorg package among other things. The idiots….. For others looking for repositories (at least I believe it is repositories) there’s another NUS one here for Gentoo,Ubuntu,CentOS and White Box

Night people

Opera 9 is out!!!

Opera 9 Preview 1 to be exact. Check out the Opera Beta page to get your copy now. Quite a lot of updates, some significant ones would be the support of XSLT. Surprising seeing how they had a stand that XSLT was considered bad. A bit lazy to find the forum thread about it, I think I was something to do with client side formatting and how that should not be a standard as different clients will intepret it differently. Something like that if my mind is right :P
A page they took out of Firefox’s book, is opera:config. Opera has had before opera:plugins, opera:history and a few others as well I think. Added a feature of locking tabs so you cant close them, possibly useful for some people. Enhanced popup blocker and site-specific settings!! The only problem I have with Opera is that most things are done in ini files and will only take effect on a browser restart. I wish they could integrate it so that it doesnt need a restart. Aaaahahhh its getting late I better get to sleep for a productive day tomorrow. Enjoy your weekend people

Strange how I find myself posting more and more at a time like this

Check out .kkrieger – chapter I. Its just amazing how much was crammed into 95KB. Playable FPS game, with audio and pretty good graphics considering 95KB. After playing this game, 95KB has a whole new meaning. Just simply amazing I think.

Now back to work. My mind drifts ALOT these few days, as can be seen through all these postings. And I just remember that Mythbusters was on last night… Aaaaahhh keep forgeting. Off to work!

Ok I should be working

But after watching episode 10 of DigitalLifeTV I got curious of Ruby on Rails. They mentioned that along with Ajax. I’ve heard about Ajax and had a rough understanding of what it was. I heard of Ruby as well but didnt have any clue what it was. After watching the 15min intro video I was completely blown away. I mean man this is awesome stuff. Practically created a blog engine within 15 minutes. Cool automation of linking the database with the engine and just simply wow.

For more interesting things on my daily Digg session. Found a video on TOOOL on Bumpkeying (or is it key bumping?). What it basically is, is a skeleton key that requires a ‘bump’ to open doors. The ‘bump’ can be from an object like a screwdriver as shown in the video. This leaves practically no traces of forced entry and is scary yet cool at the same time. Watch the video, its interesting especially if you don’t know much about locks and how they work. Get enlightened like I did.
“Knowledge is power. Abuse of Knowledge is weakness.” Thats kind of a quote I just came up with when I told my friend about the video. The first sentence is a norm I guess but somehow I just decided to add the second one. Maybe I’ll get famouse from this quote. Maybe not :P But I can wish can’t I??? :P But honestly I think five words in the sentence makes it too long to catch on. “Knowledge is Power” is short and simple. 3 words with all the meaning.

No fan of Eminem but for some strange reason I was drawn to the iPod ad featuring him. Apparently it was pulled from the website as some places has reported but is still available here.

Ok I should get back to work. Mind has been drifting ALOT today. Hope to finish more HR2002 readings. Slow, painful and arduous task.

Just another sleep deprived day

** Updated at 13:11:39 on 2005/10/18 **
Yep you got that right. Slept at about 6 this morning after spending all night programming for my FYP. Slowly learning MSVC++ and MSeVC++. Slowly but surely. The application is almost done but there still a lot to learn. Speaking of programming… I found this great site on programming tools; IDE’s, compilers and other stuff. Link courtesy of Digg of course ;-) So woke up at 8 to go to HR2002 HRM class. 2 hours of sleep and just had my dinner so I’m feeling quite full and awake, waiting to go to sleep.

Got this in a mail from linuxNUS. Its about NUS‘s IVLE. Quite a long read for me so I’m kind of lazy to read it so I’ll just leave it here for people to read.

Just installed Serious Sam 2 demo. Dont think I’m going to play it yet. I hope I dont :P Anyway had CS2106: Operating Systems midterm today. 30 MCQ’s, 70 minutes, 15% of the final grade. It was ok, but I personally don’t like MCQ’s because the examiner can’t really see if you know what you are doing or not. MCQ’s with explanation now thats something to do. I believe I did have a quiz like that for EE2010: Systems and Controls and I believe it is a good thing. It shows that you know your stuff as well as some answers can help you along the way if you really dont know what the question is asking for :P Anyway for anybody planning on doing Operating Systems please do try to take it in the 2nd semester. Roland Yap who teaches it this semester seems to make things less enjoyable compared to raving reviews of Hugh Anderson I get from anybody who he teachers. Actually I did attend his lecture once, 1 year ago before I dropped Operating Systems due to a module planning disaster. It was enjoyable which is sadly unlike Roland Yap’s teaching style. Maybe its just me, but I just don’t like it. He tends to mumble off things and his lab questions take a lot of time to decipher what he wants and also he tends to go too slow.

Anyway I think I’ll stay up for Tiramisu on Channel 5. Hmmm “Whose Line is it Anyway” on at 0200 tomorrow. Who knows maybe I’ll naturally wake up at 2 so I can watch it :P Tomorrow is my usual free day most likely spent on EE4214 Real Time Embedded Systems project which is a pain. The hardware doesnt seem reliable and sometimes it just conks out. Anyway perhaps let me go finish off my FYP PDA application. Have a nice week people and catch up on your sleep. And good luck studying for exams =)

Busy days

EE4214 is stealing my sleep. But some progress is being made. Weekened reserved for FYP work. Well if you havent heard the new video iPod is out. Cool device. Costs too much for me but more importantly I dont have any use for it. I wonder how much $$$$ Apple’s going to get from it, I bet its a whole crap load :P

On the gaming side.. Quake 4 coming in on the 19th and Serious Sam II is out but doesnt seem to be coming yet. Games I want to play but have no time to :( Guess I’ll have to wait till exams are done.

Micro NES: another cool project on the todo list :P

On to FYP work. Enjoy your weekend people. Oh yeah one more thing I just remembered. Friend of my got engaged last week. Mr Ong Ed Red congrats and have a happy life with Christina ;-) Got to catch up with you some day.

Free TV

** Updated at 23:39:07 on 2005/10/09 **
Free TV online (courtesy of Digg). Currently watching American Free.tv. Its an old comedy but hey its still free tv. 320×240 running very smoothly. No skips as of yet but then its 0530 in the morning :P
Been up doing FYP programming. Finally got a break through :D That was good. Funny thing was I slept at about 7 till 9 last night and I’m still not feeling that sleepy.
Had my dose of Digital Life TV and Diggnation. Still waiting for
TWiT though. Signs of a TechTV (Wikipedia entry) fan :P
I guess I should get some sleep. Got more project work to come later. Life in the final year. Great…. :P But happy. But tonnes of work. But want to explore more. But no time. But time to sleep I guess.

What the heck?

All I can say is that people really need to be educated properly. “All other browsers must also be removed from your computer.”. What the freaking heck man. Internet Explorer is one of the causes of virus infections and malicious software. Almost any other browser are much safer than Internet Explorer. Get educated people. Knowledge is power.

Now back to knowledge building in MSVC++….
